We still need Volunteers for Saturday's Tour de Fat

We still need a few more volunteers for next Saturday's Tour de Fat. Volunteers receive a cool T-Shirt and some cold beer (provided you are of legal drinking age).

We need a couple of H2O Technicians. Shift A is 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Shift B is from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. H2O techs work the water station and fill water jugs behind each stage. Work the early shift and you can enjoy the fun and music. Work the later shift and you will be around to help shut down when the New Belgium staff needs help breaking down the venue and disposing of all remaining beverages.

We also still need volunteers for the Tear Down Crew from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Just what it sounds like - you can enjoy the festival and then get to work to help close it down or just show up to help before you head off to watch the UT/Baylor football game. The big benefit is that once we shut down the venue to the public there are only volunteers left to help finish off whatever ice cold beer didn't get consumed.

“Tour de Fat” Still Needs a Car-for-Bike Swapper

Ft. Collins, CO, October 15, 2012 – Tour de Fat, New Belgium Brewing’s traveling celebration of all things bicycle, is still looking for a car-for-bike swapper for its Austin finale on Saturday, October 20 at the West End of Fiesta Garden. A highlight of Tour de Fat is the annual car-for-bike swap, where one person will hand over his or her car keys and commit to one year of living car-free. This year, the swapper will choose a local bike shop to help turn a $2,250 budget into an ultimate car-replacement commuter bike. Vehicles for Charity will auction the car, with proceeds benefitting local cycling organizations.

To submit a swapper application, go to the New Belgium Tour de Fat Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TourDeFat), click on events and your city of choice, and upload a video. Applicants may also submit letters about why New Belgium should select them by emailing: trademycarforabike@newbelgium.com.

It looks good for tomorrow at Muleshoe - unless we get lots of overnight rain.

Please note that we meet at the end of TRAMELL Rd., not Tatum (what I originally posted).

We are expecting about 60 riders. With ACL and the UT game going on we are a little short of our regular ride leaders so if you are willing to lead a group, please let us know.

Sharing a message from Jenny Abraham and Jake Carsten Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew

Hey all!

Thank you so much for taking part in the events this weekend! We were so pleased that everyone took time out on Friday afternoon to attend our Better Living Through Trails presentation.

And thanks to all who came out to the Saturday trail building school and put time in at the Walnut Creek trails reclaiming the eroded fall line section and cutting in the new section of trail. We had a blast working with all of you and hope you are pleased with your handiwork.

Please check out our blog post about the weekend, along with pictures on Flickr!. If you have a sec, please post up a comment on the blog.

Please review the attached document titledTCC Follow Up Resources for plans to build your own rock sling, web links to tool and material resources, sign and map resources, and a link to our public Google Documents folder with a PDF copy of the Better Living Through Trails presentation and a variety of documents discussing the economic benefits of outdoor recreation and bicycling.

For anyone interested in potentially contracting with our professional trail building team, you can contact Chris Bernhardt (Director of Consulting Services) at chris.bernhardt@imba.com or 503-913-9623.

Please let us know if we can be of assistance.

Build. Respect. Ride.

These are words that ARR believes and we strive to demonstrate this belief by giving back though trail maintenance and advocacy efforts and we are proud to be associated with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and their efforts towards greater trail access.

We do this for our love of riding and because we want to help keep trails open and to see new trails built. Not just for ourselves but for all trail users, this generation and the next. We are strong supporters of the IMBA rules of the trail and encourage every trail user to know and follow these rules which are available on this website and at www.imba.com.

Be a responsible rider, respect the trail and fellow trail users and support organizations that work to preserve access and development of trails everywhere.
