2012 New Belgium Urban Assault Ride - Austin

The Austin Community and the Austin Ridge Riders are extremely fortunate in that New Belgium Brewery has brought several exciting events to town over the past few years. the Urban Assault Ride is one such event and gets bigger and better with each passing year.
The Austin Ridge Riders is one of the event's beneficiary organizations and we stand to gain monetarily by providing volunteers to work the wacky checkpoint stations.
We know that we ask a lot, and often, of our members and volunteer corps but events like the Urban Assault Ride and Tour de Fat help raise funds that support our programs )Ride Like A Girl, Kid Trips, Austin Mountain Bike Patrol and the Trail Stewardship Program)

The Urban Assault Ride™ is the biggest Bicycle Obstacle Event series in the nation! Here's how it works: Two-person team set out on a city-wide quest for 'checkpoints' on their favorite two-wheeled steeds. At each checkpoint, the teams must drop the bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount bikes and hit the streets for more. The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. Each teams chooses their own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if team members can pull a mean big-wheel powerslide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide ;)

The Urban Assault Ride is an Austin summer cycling institution. What 1st started as a tiny sparkle in a local bike racer's eye has now turned into the biggest competitive cycling event in the Lone Star state. There's a reason why - every year the UAR gets bigger with fresh and funky obstacle courses and a massive celebration at the finish line. It's a "can't miss event" that must be on every Austinite's summer calendar.
