Ride Like a Girl

Welcome to the Ride Like a Girl Group!

Based on the theory that women learn new skills differently from men, rides are designated as “for women only”. While a sister-organization to the Austin Ridge Riders, Ride Like A Girl is completely self supporting and estrogen powered!

The concept is simple: the “girls” meet at local bike trails for group rides and mountain biking skills instruction.  Riders break into small groups based on ability and then hit the trail  Post ride, the ladies regroup for a raffle of prizes donated by local bike shops and a growing number of manufacturers.

Instruction is provided on everything from riding safety to trail etiquette, bike maintenance to first aid.  Ride Like A Girl grows in popularity each year and we are excited as the kick-off to our 2009 season approaches.  This is the start of our second decade and we look forward to reconnecting with past participants and introducing a new group of women to the awesome sport of mountain biking.

The initial ride draws up to 75 ladies and rides throughout the season draw from 30 to 60 participants.  Every year, ride leaders are approached by male riders wanting to know how they can join Ride Like A Girl.  Some have even offered to wear a wig and a skirt and we consider this evidence of the quality of instruction, excellent ride organization and overall fun!  In 2008, organizers expanded the program to include several Saturday Rides held in conjunction with the Austin Ridge Riders for fun, co-ed rides.  In support of trail stewardship, we have added trail work days to our program.

We are excited about your interest and know that you will love participating in our events!

Bikes, babes and brews....deal with it!

(RLAG) Season Opener Ride and Party @ Walnut Creek

Monday, May 7, 2012 - 18:00

UPDATE Monday  May 7  5:15 p.m.

Just heard from Marti who been out checking trail conditions. The trails seems to have benefited from the rain and with the exception of a mucky spot just across the Rock Bridge. The heavy weather pattern it still well north of us and as of now...moving pretty much due east.

We should be good to go for at least a short ride and some socializing!

Remember...a short ride is better than no ride!!

2012 Ride Like A Girl Series - Who is ready to Lead and Sweep?

The bluebonnets are blooming and before long it will be time for Ride Like A Girl. We are working hard on the details (sponsors, dates, schwag, etc.) and once again it is time to recruit the next class of ladies who will help introduce and reintroduce ladies in the the sport we love so much.

Don't think you have the skillz or know the trails well enough to lead? NO PROBLEM!! We always need sweeps.

Don't think you have enough experience? Nonsense!! You have just the right amount of trail time to help others along and you still remember what it was like to be a newbie so we know you'll help them feel comfortable and build confidence.

Interested? Post up if you are interested and we'll add you to the distribution list!

Build. Respect. Ride.

These are words that ARR believes and we strive to demonstrate this belief by giving back though trail maintenance and advocacy efforts and we are proud to be associated with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and their efforts towards greater trail access.

We do this for our love of riding and because we want to help keep trails open and to see new trails built. Not just for ourselves but for all trail users, this generation and the next. We are strong supporters of the IMBA rules of the trail and encourage every trail user to know and follow these rules which are available on this website and at www.imba.com.

Be a responsible rider, respect the trail and fellow trail users and support organizations that work to preserve access and development of trails everywhere.
