I joined the Austin Ridge Riders in November of 2004 after a fantastic summer participating in the Ride Like A Girl series. I had so much fun that summer I knew I couldn’t wait until the next year. I moved to Austin after 5 years in northern Nevada and purchased what I thought was a mountain bike to ride on local hike-n-bike trails.
During a visit to a local bike shop, I happened to pick up a hot pink Ride Like A Girl flyer and the real mountain biking commenced. As much as I wanted a new bike, I had promised myself that as much as I wanted a new bike, I would ride the one I had until it broke. And break it did on my first ride on the whoop-dee-do loop at Walnut Creek. Sometimes the bike gods are kind.
Through my involvement with Austin Ridge Riders and Ride Like A Girl, I have meet many wonderful people, made good friends and learned a lot about myself and my abilities. I have worked through total meltdown on the Lake Georgetown Trail, dehydration at Rocky Hill Ranch and the thrill of carrying my bike on the black diamond portion at Reimers Ranch. While I never seem to ride as often as I consider being a mountain biker and a member of ARR as part of who I am.
When not riding or sending mass emails, I attend school hoping to attain by BA before I am 50 and spend lots of time cleaning up after our three mastiffs, Charlie, Boog and Max. I have been married to my supportive, albeit non-mountain biking, husband John for 17 years and we currently live in Lago Vista.
