Who We Are
Meet our Board of Directors
The Austin Ridge Riders Board of Directors is a volunteer team of mountain biking enthusiasts who collaborate to administer a variety of programs and activities that support the club’s mission and goals. We meet monthly and as needed to discuss everything from trail maintenance agreements with local municipalities, access for new trail, upcoming workdays and group rides, and ways to grow membership and support the local community. Regular participation in club rides, trail work, and special events is encouraged. Board Members must maintain annual IMBA membership with Austin Ridge Riders and act in accordance with the club’s bylaws, policies, and procedures. Officers must have served on the board for a period of one year prior to election, and at-large directors must have been a club member for one year.
We serve as ambassadors for the club to the mountain biking community, service providers, land managers, sponsors, and other community partners. We work as a team to accomplish program activities and goals to further ARR’s mission, and represent the club in a positive way when interfacing with the community on social media.
The Austin Ridge Riders mission is to develop trails by promoting trail stewardship in cooperation with local land managers, improve mountain bike awareness and access, and bring people together to build a strong off road cycling community.

Charlie Riou | President
Charlie started mountain biking in the early 90's on a full rigid steel geared mountain bike. His tech hasn't changed much over the years, in fact it's regressed with his current use of a fixed gear rigid steel bike. He got involved in trail building with the Austin Ridge Riders in the early 00's. He has served on the Board of Directors many years. He has led the design, building and maintenance of countless trails in the Austin area and beyond, including some in northern Nevada. Two of his biggest projects were the first trail system at Reveille Peak Ranch and a major trail expansion project at Pedernales Falls State Park including Juniper Ridge trail. He really enjoys rock work and nerding out on nature. His vision for ARR is a focus on education in all areas relating to mountain biking including skills, trail building and trail etiquette as well as fostering understanding and collaboration with land managers and all user groups that share our trails.

Cullen McMorrow | Vice President
Cullen grew up in Barton Hills riding mountain bikes in the Barton Creek Greenbelt, skateboarding, and riding BMX. He went to UT Austin and continued to ride BMX, building ramps and dirt jumps. He began mountain biking again in 2005 and has volunteered regularly with the Club since then. Cullen is a big fan of the "Flow Country" concept of trail building; where flow features and obstacle features are mixed into regular trails. Cullen travels to ride both cross country and downhill MTB whenever possible. In addition to serving as the Vice President, he’s the Trail Steward for Walnut Creek Metro Park, and formerly the Trails Program Director of ARR. Cullen is committed to building trails and features for a range of skill levels, supporting trail stewards, and growing the success of the ARR.

Renee Mocha | Secretary
Renee started mountain biking in 2017. Her go to ride spots are at Brushy Creek or Walnut Park, but she loves exploring new trails and is always down for a road trip. She began volunteering as a Ride Like A Girl leader and as the Austin Ridge Riders Secretary in 2021. She loves to help people improve their bike skills and hopes you’ll join the Club for a group ride!

Jeff Daugherty | Treasurer
Jeff has been an Austin Ridge Riders member since 2007 and joined the Board of Directors in 2011. During his tenure, Jeff has served as a board member at large, Trail Steward Coordinator, Secretary and he presently serves as the Club’s Treasurer. Jeff is active in building and maintaining ARR trails. He is one of two trail stewards that helps to maintain the Army Corp of Engineers Lake Georgetown Goodwater trail, which is an IMBA Epic trial. Beyond his love of mountain biking he also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, scuba diving and all things outdoors.

Dale Daugherty | Marketing & Communications Director
Dale was born and raised in Austin. Mountain biking started out as a way to build fitness, but evolved into a total love affair with the sport: riding, progressing, building, and photography. When he’s not riding with friends, he is stacking dirt jumps and berms, cutting new single track, shooting races and events, and making fun content for MTBATX – a project he started to help build enthusiasm for the sport of mountain biking in central Texas. South Austin, and “South Austin Trail Network” is his home, and where he spends most of his time doing trail work. His favorite trails in the Austin area include Boats N Flows, Texas Two Step, BCGB, and exploring trails not typically listed on the internet!

Abel Pardo | Ride Program Director
Abel has lived in Austin since 1998 and began mountain biking when he joined ARR in 2016. Since then, he has enjoyed meeting new people and learning new trails. Though he is not much for racing, he does like to participate in endurance events. He has been riding Judgement Day in Dallas for the past couple of years, a 70-mile ride event! As a regular Sunday ride leader, he loves working with new riders and showing them new trails.

Joe Wieck | Trails Program Director
I’ve been in Austin since 1996 and have been riding the trails around here since 2005. I love the technical gnar of a limestone ledge but appreciate the smooth flow of a well designed bench-cut trail. My riding time is split between geared bikes and a single speed for those days when all I want to do is turn the cranks and not think about shifting. I love all kinds of trail work but have a special place in my heart for a well placed berm or roller that sets you up perfectly for that fun little jump. I live up North but I ride all the trails in the area enjoying the wide variety of amazing single track that we're lucky enough to have here in Central Texas.

Brooks Lawson | Special Events Program Director
Brooks is an avid mountain biking enthusiast with a passion for flow trails and the great outdoors. Residing in Oak Hill, Brooks is deeply involved in the local cycling community, frequently participating in and leading group rides at Walnut Creek. This passion extends beyond the ride, as Brooks is also dedicated to volunteering and contributing to the community, particularly through active participation in local trail building initiatives. With a strong belief in the power of community and a love for the camaraderie that comes with group activities, Brooks has become a well-known figure among local outdoor enthusiasts. When not on the trails or immersed in community projects, Brooks enjoys exploring the digital landscapes of video games and staying abreast of the latest computer technologies.

Kristin Speyer | Ride Organizer
Kristin began her mountain biking journey in 2019. Learning a brand new skill took time and lots of crashes. Austin Ridge Riders has provided an environment of encouragement and support. Now it's time to give back. She loves working with new riders to encourage them in their progress, and share the techniques and lessons she has learned. The best feeling is seeing the excitement in other riders when they clear something they were scared of. A day trip to Spider Mountain is a favorite for her.
Meet Our Trail Stewards
Our volunteer Trail Stewards help create and maintain many of the miles you enjoy here in Austin and Central Texas. ARR has a long history of building single track and that means a lot of miles that require constant upkeep. To do this, our Stewards lead a volunteer Trail Crew, taking care of anything from face slappers to head knockers, dangerous punji sticks, and erosion and drainage issues. We’re also concerned with adding fun features where we can. Trail Stewards have the delicate task of balancing what the community wants and needs, with what the land owner can allow, and what the land itself allows.
