August Newsletter

Can you believe this group just finished riding 1/4 Notch? Brushy Creek, Sunday, August 3, 2025 | Photo Credit: Katina Butler Bohrer

LCRA Parks recently contracted with Dirt Dojo and Nomad Trail Development to improve the single track at Muleshoe Bend! One of the most obvious updates will be more than 20 berms added to low-traction turns on The Great Escape trail.

This is exciting news for riders, and the staff at LCRA are stoked for our group ride because they want your feedback on the improvements, and what future improvements you want to see. Their team will be joining us alongside Jake Carsten of Dirt Dojo. They will also be bringing coffee in the morning, and supporting our post ride.

We would love to see a big turnout. Let’s show LCRA Parks that we appreciate them dedicating effort and funding to MTB trails! Please plan to join us on August 23rd.

Advocacy in Action

Austin Ridge Riders Vice President Cullen McMorrow spoke briefly at the July 28, 2025 Parks Board meeting, to connect with new leadership of the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, and to develop goodwill with the Board (who often hear from cranky people complaining).

He mentioned that communities across the country, like Colorado, California, Vermont, etc, all have strong relationships between the cities and their trail advocacy groups, and likewise Austin Ridge Riders commends the relationship we have with the Community Activated Park Project (CAPP) Program.   There are other specific topics, like Bolm District Park bike park facilities; Walter E. Long mtb trails; Holly Shores pump track; professional trail work at Mary Moore Searight Park; and other topics that we've been talking with the City privately on, but we decided to keep this public comment pretty brief.  This is all just part of the larger goal of keeping MTB included in the public conversation, and letting them know that their partnerships are working.

You can watch Cullen’s comments at 18:35 in this video.

Spider Mountain, July 26th Group Ride

Thank you to Spider Mountain Bike Park, manager Brian Stevens, and Hunter Jowers aka Spidie King and the rest of the staff for giving ARR members a discount on lift tickets and taking care of us! Likewise, Texas Dream Bikes, owner/mechanic Morgann Lahaie, mechanics Jorge Rascon, and Adam Simo for bringing the van, helping with tune-ups and hanging out. We’re stoked we had so many riders hit park laps for the first time, and proud of Alex Murray who skipped the lift and earned his laps.

Brushy Creek, July 27th Workday

“Thanks to  Nikita Borodikhin, Reagan Knowles and Matt Williams and his wife. We worked on the West side of Peddlers Pass. An official bypass was added, and the drop it was bypassing was built up and armored. The landing was raised and curved. Thanks to Dirt Master Cullen McMorrow. The exit line was cleaned and drains added. The trail cupping was removed so it will shed water. Matt and his wife ran the chainsaw and trimmer, cutting back limbs and grasses.  Finally the eroded section next to the creek was shored up and widened.” - Steward Tommy Kerstetter
